Report: Newcastle officials now green light new signing, could be much easier to complete now

Newcastle United have managed to agree a fee with Lille for the transfer of defender Sven Botman with the window set to open tomorrow.

That is according to the Northern Echo, who say that £30 million will be enough to lure the Dutchman away from the Ligue 1 club.

But the structure of the payments is still causing an issue, with Lille wanting more up front and Newcastle currently offering £15 million initially.

The rest would then be spread over his contract, but there has been a breakthrough in the negotiations to land a player who has been a target since the January transfer window.

Newcastle agree Botman fee

Newcastle’s agreed budget as well as the parameters of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations are the main reasons they are pushing for a staggered fee payment. I

Lille have not accepted that part yet but there is confidence on Newcastle’s part they will do the deal and they want to finalise things as quickly as possible, with AC Milan lurking.

One thing which could play in Newcastle’s favour is that Botman is in Wales with Netherlands’ Under-21 side, and being in the UK could see a deal done more quickly.

That is Botman’s last game of the season, so he could do a medical at Newcastle and agree personal terms while he is over here.

Newcastle have chased Botman for a while and they have not given up hope at times when it seemed a deal would never get done.

There is clearly still more to be done but what a coup it would be if they could get Botman done after his game in Wales.

That would be sensational early business to go with the permanent capture of Matt Targett and the progress being made over Hugo Ekitike, who was another failed Newcastle target the club have gone back for this summer.
