Report: Newcastle now considering 'top-class' 25-year-old PL star

Newcastle United are amongst the Premier League sides interested in signing Brighton and Hove Albion star Yves Bissouma, according to the Daily Mail.

Bissouma has long been considered one of the most exciting midfielders not plying their trade for one of the heavyweights in the top-flight.

The Daily Mail reported in the summer that Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool all wanted the 25-year-old. Meanwhile, the same outlet has now suggested that Aston Villa want to follow the deal for Philippe Coutinho with a move for the Mali international.

But the Daily Mail also adds that Newcastle are keen on Bissouma. He is open to leaving the Amex Stadium with his contract having 18 months to run.

The Athletic suggested in April that Bissouma may cost at least £40 million. Of course, that may no longer be the case due to his contract situation. But Brighton will surely still want a hefty fee.

Newcastle face massive task convincing Yves Bissouma to sign, with Aston Villa keen

It would be a huge coup for Newcastle to sign Bissouma. He is potentially moving into the peak years of his career. And he has already established himself as a superb talent.

Ray Parlour suggested in September that he would love Arsenal to sign Bissouma. The talkSPORT pundit claimed that he was ‘top-class’ and ‘had everything’.

It is going to be a tough ask to win the race ahead of Villa. Steven Gerrard’s men have made a massive statement in the market by signing Coutinho. They will be setting their sights on a top-half finish this season.

Newcastle meanwhile, face a major battle trying to stay up. They have made a promising start to the month. Signing Kieran Trippier could be an inspired piece of business.

But convincing players such as Bissouma to move to Tyneside may not be easy.
