Report: Newcastle move for Chelsea's Conor Gallagher is progressing
Newcastle United’s move to sign Conor Gallagher is progressing, according to The Times, amid recent reports that the midfielder is now the Magpies’ top target.
The Times reports that Eddie Howe wants two new signings before the transfer deadline passes. Newcastle have done some brilliant work strengthening their defence. But they are yet to add to their options further up the field.
And it seems that the name at the top of their wishlist. Reports at the weekend claimed that Newcastle had made Gallagher their top target after largely accepting defeat in their pursuit of James Maddison.
Chelsea value the 22-year-old at £40 million. But he is also no stranger to going out on loan after impressive spells with the likes of Swansea, West Brom and Crystal Palace.
It is not entirely clear what kind of deal Newcastle are pursuing. But The Times does claim that their move to sign Gallagher is progressing.
Newcastle move for Gallagher progressing
It would be a real coup for Newcastle to sign Gallagher in the final stages of the window. He was absolutely outstanding at Selhurst Park last season.
He is someone capable of making a real impact in the middle of the park. And he looks to have an incredibly bright future ahead.
Thomas Tuchel is reportedly reluctant to let him leave, having labelled him ‘fantastic‘ previously. And he has featured in the early stages of this Premier League season.
Gallagher however, will have his sights set on making the World Cup squad this winter. And with that, he may need more regular game-time.
Newcastle look ready to offer that.
