Newcastle United have joined Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Franck Kessie as AC Milan remain some distance away from agreeing a new contract with the midfielder, according to a report from Il Milanista.
As things stand, Kessie will become a free agent this summer. His contract at San Siro expires at the end of the season.

Unsurprisingly, the Rossoneri are still hoping to agree an extension with the 25-year-old. However, Il Milanista reports that the two sides are extremely far apart in talks.
Kessie apparently wants more than £112,000-a-week at his next club. And several offers from abroad have already reached his agent.

Il Milanista names Tottenham, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter as admirers. But it has also been suggested that Newcastle are also in the running to sign Kessie.
Newcastle will have little problem offering contract Franck Kessie is looking for
Clearly, Newcastle have plenty of work to do before they are able to look forward to the summer. Eddie Howe’s men have put themselves in a fantastic position in the battle to beat the drop. But nothing is decided.
Should they stay up, the Magpies have the means to pull off some stunning deals. And signing Kessie would certainly be a huge coup for Newcastle.
They undoubtedly have the financial power to offer the Ivorian the kind of contract he is looking for.
Previous reports claimed that Tottenham have already made a big offer for the midfielder, who has previously been labelled ‘extraordinary’.
Spurs probably have an advantage over Newcastle for Kessie at the moment. Antonio Conte’s men can, right now, offer Premier League football next season.
However, Kessie will have lofty ambitions. So he may also be reluctant to commit to joining Tottenham while there are no guarantees over which European competition they may be playing in next year.
Newcastle sent out a real statement by signing Bruno Guimaraes in January. And while they will not be playing in Europe next year, clearly a move to the Magpies may be difficult for many to turn down should they stay up.
