Report: Newcastle interested in Manchester City star Nathan Ake

Newcastle United are interested in Nathan Ake, with talkSPORT reporting that the Netherlands international has been told that he can leave Manchester City this summer.

Ake has struggled to break out from the periphery from the City squad. The 27-year-old only made 14 appearances in the Premier League this past season.

TalkSPORT reports that he has now been told that he can leave the Etihad Stadium in the coming months. And one of his former managers is ready to offer him a fresh challenge.

7 Transfers That Were TERRIBLE For Everyone Involved

The report suggests that Newcastle want the £41 million Dutchman. Howe brought him to Bournemouth on loan before he signed permanently during his tenure on the south coast.

Newcastle interested in Nathan Ake

The Magpies enjoyed a hugely successful second-half of the season. And a big reason for their success was the signings that they brought in in January. So the fans will hope for more of the same this summer.

Ake would arguably be a brilliant signing for Newcastle. He has impressed when he has featured for Pep Guardiola’s side. And Virgil van Dijk previously labelled him a ‘fantastic‘ player.

Much may depend on how much City want for the centre-back. He still has three years left on his contract. But obviously, the Magpies have the means to target almost anyone on the market.

Reports previously claimed that Howe wanted Ake during the January transfer window. Obviously, a move to St James’ Park is a much more appealing opportunity now that they are not in relegation danger.

And Ake knows what he will get working with Howe. The Englishman helped the defender take his game to the next level while he was at the Vitality Stadium.

Perhaps Ake will now return the favour and help Newcastle kick on next season.
