Report: Eddie Howe would love £40m star at Newcastle

Eddie Howe would love to bring Nathan Ake to Newcastle United as he looks to improve his defence, but The Athletic suggests that Manchester City are highly unlikely to let him leave.

The Magpies are continuing to push towards their second signing of the window. Of course, Kieran Trippier is through the door and has already made his debut.

The Athletic suggests that Howe is looking to sign a new centre-back. And a player that he would love to bring to St James’ Park is Ake.

Howe, of course, worked with the Dutchman at Bournemouth. And it was his form at the Vitaly Stadium that prompted Manchester City to spend £40 million on Ake.

The 26-year-old has not managed to become a regular fixture in the Cityzens’ side. He has made six starts in the Premier League this season, with two further appearances coming from the bench.

Nevertheless, Newcastle will seemingly have little success should they make any move for Ake this month. The Athletic claims that it is highly unlikely that City will let him leave.

Newcastle signing Nathan Ake could have been a game-changing signing

There is absolutely no shame in being an understudy for the current Manchester City side. In fact, it says a lot that Ake has played eight times in the top-flight, and a further three times in the Champions League.

Pep Guardiola previously claimed that Ake was ‘a joy‘ to have in the squad. So it would have been huge for Newcastle had they managed to bring him to Tyneside.

He is coming into his peak. And he can play in a variety of positions. So it is no surprise that Howe would love him in his Magpies ranks.

But it is also no surprise that City are highly unlikely to let him leave.
