Report: Newcastle interested in Gabriel Jesus with Arsenal leading race

Newcastle are interested in Gabriel Jesus, with Calciomercato. It reporting that the Magpies are amongst a host of clubs looking to rival Arsenal for the Manchester City star.

Jesus looks set to leave City this summer. Of course, the Cityzens have already announced the arrival of Erling Haaland ahead of next season. And the Brazilian’s contract expires in 2023.

It had appeared that Arsenal were his most likely destination. Reports last month claimed that personal terms with the Gunners were all but agreed.

And more recently, it was suggested that Arsenal had made progress on all fronts in their pursuit of the £51.5 million-rated 25-year-old.

Calciomercato. It also reports that the Gunners are out in front in the race for Jesus. However, plenty of teams are not ready to admit defeat.

AC Milan and Juventus have taken information from his entourage. And Milan plan to look at the situation this week. But several others are also keen.

And Calciomercato. It reports that Newcastle are one of those who want Jesus. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also admirers.

Newcastle face a tough fight trying to sign Jesus, who Pep Guardiola has previously labelled ‘incredible‘. Of course, they can compete with most teams with the financial package that they offer. Reports at the weekend noted that they would be able to blow Barcelona out of the water in the battle for Raphinha.

But they cannot offer Jesus Champions League football next term. So they surely face an uphill task trying to convince him to move to St James’ Park.

They could certainly weaken Arsenal’s hopes on Monday. The two sides meet at St James’ Park. And Arsenal failing to win will leave Mikel Arteta’s side in big trouble in the battle to finish fourth.
