Newcastle United are increasingly hopeful of being able to see off competition from the likes of Tottenham and Aston Villa to sign Christian Eriksen this summer, according to The Northern Echo.

Eriksen is being chased by a number of Premier League sides after an amazing return to football. He has helped put Brentford on the brink of another year back in the top-flight. And he shone on his emotional return to the international arena.

Reports claimed that Spurs, Villa, West Ham and Everton all want Eriksen. Meanwhile, Brentford would obviously love to keep him beyond this season.

But it would appear that Newcastle believe that they are in pole position. The Northern Echo reports that they are increasingly hopeful of luring Eriksen to St James’ Park.

In fact, they are willing to match or better any of other offers on the table from their Premier League rivals. And Amanda Staveley is hoping to get the chance to speak to his representatives about a potential switch.

Signing Christian Eriksen could be a masterstroke from Newcastle

Newcastle will be the ones to watch in the summer. The fans will be hoping for exciting moves in the market. But they are not planning to break the bank. Their transfer budget is said to be around £90 million.

So signing someone as good as Eriksen on a free transfer could be inspired. He has been ‘incredible‘ for Thomas Frank’s men, reminding everyone just how much quality he possesses.

You would imagine that staying at Brentford or moving to Tottenham represent the most appealing options for Eriksen. The Bees were the ones to offer him a fresh opportunity. And obviously, he spent several years with Spurs.

So it would be quite something if he did indeed end up at Newcastle.
