Report: Newcastle have been tracking 'complete' striker for months now, he'll cost over £40m though
Newcastle United have been back in training for a couple of weeks now as the Premier League restart edges closer.
Fans will be impatient to return to St. James’ Park to witness the remarkable season their side is having.
Eddie Howe had his side playing some magnificent football before the mid-season break.
Their unbeaten run currently stretches back to the beginning of September.
It’s a run that includes victories over Chelsea and Tottenham, and has helped them move into the top four.
Howe has been getting performances out of his attacking players that Newcastle fans have never witnessed before.
The form of Miguel Almiron has particularly stood out, but he’s been supported brilliantly by the likes of Callum Wilson and Bruno Guimaraes.
Newcastle will know that a strong January transfer window could cement their return to European football.
The Northern Echo suggest Newcastle have been tracking PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo for months.
They’ve now been set an asking price, which could entice them into an imminent bid.
Newcastle have been tracking Gakpo for months
Gakpo has been the subject of plenty of transfer interest over the past few months.
Leeds United were close to securing a move for the 23-year-old in the summer, and will be fuming they couldn’t get it over the line.
Since then, Gakpo has been in unstoppable form for club and country.
His three goals at the World Cup only enhanced his reputation, but the Eredivisie has seen the best of Gakpo this campaign.
He’s already recorded nine goals and 12 assists for PSV, and is now expected to fetch at least £40m if he’s sold in January.
Newcastle’s recent transfer business has been exceptional, and it’s no surprise they’ve been tracking Gakpo for months.
The ‘complete’ forward would act as competition for Wilson and Alexander Isak, but is also very comfortable playing out wide.
PSV are expecting Gakpo to leave in the January, and the Premier League appears to be his most likely destination.
Howe will be hoping Newcastle is the option he chooses when the time comes to move on.
