Newcastle United could make a move for Marcus Thuram during the January transfer window, with The Sun reporting that the Magpies could look to beat the likes of Tottenham and Arsenal to the France international’s signature.
Thuram is attracting plenty of attention after putting himself on the cusp of the best season of his career. Previously, he had never managed more than 14 goals in a single campaign in all competitions.

This season however, Thuram has 13 goals already. He has found the back of the net 10 times in 15 Bundesliga games for Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Newcastle could make January move for Marcus Thuram
His form is not the only reason he is a wanted man. His contract expires at the end of the season. And with that, foreign clubs can discuss a pre-contract deal with the Frenchman from the turn of the year.

Previous reports from 90min have suggested that Tottenham and Arsenal want the 25-year-old. And The Sun is also suggesting that the North London pair want Thuram.
But the report adds that Newcastle have joined the race. In fact, Eddie Howe could hold talks with the striker in January in the hope of setting up a free transfer in the summer.
The Magpies’ owners are ready to back Howe in January with Newcastle in the mix for the top four. So perhaps there may be scope for Thuram to arrive sooner should they reach an agreement.
Something appears to have clicked for Thuram more recently. He only found the back of the net three times last season.
But he is now in the France squad for the World Cup. He may not play a huge amount in Qatar. But his chances have now improved after Karim Benzema was ruled out of the tournament.
On a free transfer, he could be a brilliant signing. He has been described as a ‘phenomenal‘ player. And Howe has got some amazing form out of almost all of his new signings on Tyneside.
It certainly appears that he is going to have some lucrative offers on the table from the Premier League in the months ahead.
