Report: Newcastle expected to make Brennan Johnson bid
Newcastle United are expected to launch a bid for Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson before the end of the January transfer window, with The Independent reporting that Eddie Howe is a huge fan of the Welshman.
The 20-year-old has been a revelation in the Championship this term. He has scored seven goals and provided five assists as Forest have flown up the table.
The club boast an outrageous record since Steve Cooper’s appointment. League leaders Fulham are the only side above them to have taken the same number of points in the last three games.
However, they face a battle to keep Johnson at the City Ground. The Independent reports that Brentford have now made an improved offer for the youngster. The Athletic has claimed it is a club-record offer.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are expected to launch a bid before the deadline. And it is claimed that Howe is a huge fan of the former Lincoln City loanee.
Forest reportedly want £20 million for Johnson. Brentford are said to be short of that amount. But his Premier League admirers will also be aware that his contract expires at the end of next season.
Newcastle will not regret meeting asking price for Brennan Johnson
Newcastle are likely to be the busiest side in the final days of the transfer window. And clearly, they have the means to blow a lot of sides away in certain pursuits.
They will certainly have the ability to better whatever Brentford put on the table for Johnson. And they will not be disappointed should they bring him to Tyneside. Gary Brazil previously suggested that he has ‘elite‘ potential.
He is impressing for club and country almost any time he steps onto the pitch. And he has also been linked with the likes of Tottenham and West Ham this month.
Of course, Newcastle will be wary of asking too much too soon. But Johnson is definitely a player who could get the St James’ Park faithful out of their seats during the second-half of this season.
