Newcastle United are now in a position to compete with some of the Premier League biggest sides in the transfer market.

Eddie Howe has turned them into genuine contenders for European football, and they have the finances to target almost any player.

A report from the Daily Mail suggests Newcastle are challenging Manchester United and Arsenal for attacker Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic arrived at Chelsea from Borussia Dortmund with high expectations.

The American had been playing brilliantly in the Bundesliga, and looked ready to make the step up to the Premier League.

However, despite showing glimpses of quality, his form has been inconsistent and injuries have hampered his chances at Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic has 18 months left on his Chelsea contract, and the club are now considering cashing in on the 24-year-old.

Although his form in the Premier League has been patchy, Pulisic has had a great start to the World Cup.

He provided the assist for Timothy Weah for the USA’s goal against Wales in their opening match.

Pulisic was then named man-of-the-match when his side held England to a goalless draw.

Newcastle could sign Pulisic in January

The report from the Daily Mail suggests Pulisic could be available for £35m.

Arsenal have been closely linked with Pulisic as well, but they’ve got plenty of other targets.

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that they would prefer a deal for Mykhaylo Mudryk over Pulisic.

Manchester United have to carefully consider how they replace Cristiano Ronaldo.

They’ve also been linked with a move for Cody Gakpo, who is in superior form to Pulisic this season.

Newcastle need another attacking option to bolster their squad.

Miguel Almiron has been phenomenal for Howe’s side this season, but Allan Saint-Maximin has missed much of the season through injury.

Although Pulisic’s fitness record is also poor, between the two of them they should be available every week.

When on form, Pulisic could become a very important player at St. James’ Park.

He’s a fantastic playmaker from wide areas, or through the middle, and can chip in with goals too.

If Newcastle could sign Pulisic, it would improve the overall quality of Howe’s squad.

It would also be a sign that they can compete with the league’s biggest clubs for transfers now.
