Report: Newcastle ask PSG about Julian Draxler move
Newcastle United have opened talks with Paris Saint-Germain over a potential move for Julian Draxler, and have already started speaking with the player’s representatives, according to a report from Le10 Sport.
The Magpies could well be one of the busier Premier League sides in the final weeks of the window. They have strengthened at the back. But they still have work to do further up the field.
Eddie Howe has targets. Reports at the weekend claimed that they want Harvey Barnes, Anthony Gordon and Jack Harrison. But they are also looking outside the Premier League.
And the player they have in mind is a World Cup winner.
According to Le10 Sport, Newcastle want Draxler and have asked for information on the 28-year-old.
The Magpies have spoken to PSG about the terms of a deal, while they have also opened talks with his representatives about a potential Tyneside switch.
The Ligue 1 winners want a fee of between £17 million and £25.6 million for Draxler. He has two years left on his contract at Parc des Princes.
Newcastle need to steer clear of Draxler
Newcastle have made a surprise move in targeting Draxler. He is a good player, but he is surely one player who has never managed to realise his full potential.
He has struggled with injury during his career. And he has spent much of his time in the French capital closer to the periphery of the squad.
Draxler has made 131 Ligue 1 appearances for the club. But he has only started 77 times in that time.
Newcastle have the means to meet Draxler’s asking price and not feel the pinch. And he is someone who has been described as a ‘quality‘ player in the past.
But surely, there is better value out there for the Magpies.
