90Min say Newcastle have added Ajax chief Edwin van der Sar to their search for a director of football – after Marc Overmars rejected the Toon.
Four-time Premier League winner van der Sar is a household name for his time in English football. He played 420 times for Fulham and Man United.
Of course, his time at the latter brought about more success. Van der Sar won the Premier League four times, and the Champions League trophy.
Since his retirement, the 51-year-old rejoined Ajax – a club he played 312 times as a player having come through the academy as early as 90-91.
He has since spent nine years in the role as chief executive, overseeing everything – alongside sporting director Overmars.
Overmars has decided to stay at Ajax, despite The Athletic claiming he held initial talks with Newcastle. Now, Newcastle are looking at van der Sar.

Van der Sar to Newcastle: Could Toon really convince Ajax CEO?
Reports have emerged this week that Newcastle are in talks to bring in out-of-work Michael Emenalo. A man, charged with Chelsea’s recent success.
He worked at Chelsea for six years as sporting director, between 2011 and 2017 – bringing in the likes of Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.
The report also claims Luis Campos, Jason Wilcox and Ralf Rangnick are options. But van der Sar is also on the list, a name yet to be mentioned.
It is hard to see van der Sar being tempted – with Overmars already turning down a move. But he does clearly enjoy English football. Time will tell.
