Report: Manchester United left really impressed by ‘incredible’ star Jurgen Klopp wants at Liverpool during the World Cup
Liverpool have been linked with moves to a host of midfielders ahead of the January window but it seems that Bellingham is right at the top of Klopp’s list.
The Borussia Dortmund star was a standout performer for England at the World Cup and has probably raised his price-tag even further off the back of his displays for Gareth Southgate’s side.
David Ornstein claimed last week that Klopp is ‘leading the pursuit’ for Liverpool to sign Bellingham and that Dortmund value him at over £100 million.
The Reds certainly need to re-shape their midfield, with many of their stars in the middle of the park now over 30. Thiago Alcantara has shown his qualities at Anfield but he’s been hampered by injuries.
At 32, Jordan Henderson is edging towards the end of his playing career at the very top level. Bellingham seems like the perfect player for Klopp to build his side around, but they could now face added competition for the 19-year-old’s signature.
Manchester United impressed by Bellingham
The Athletic reports that Erik Ten Hag was ‘deeply’ impressed by Bellingham’s displays in Qatar.
United have continued to keep an eye on the youngster’s progress after making a big attempt to sign him before he moved to Germany.
The Dutch boss apparently believes that Bellingham’s displays for England were on a ‘different level’ to what he’s achieved for Dortmund this season.
Of course, the Red Devils signed Jadon Sancho from the Bundesliga outfit last year and paid a fee worth £73 million. But Bellingham is likely to bring in a much larger sum when he eventually leaves Germany.
Dean Jones claimed last week that Klopp is worried the ‘incredible’ Bellingham could snub a move to Anfield in favour of making a switch to Manchester City.
But BILD’s Christian Falk has also claimed that the youngster prefers a move to Anfield over Real Madrid.
It’s no surprise that United have been tracking Bellingham, especially after they missed out on signing him over three years ago.
Liverpool seem to be the frontrunners at this moment in time but it could come down to where Klopp’s men finish in the league this season.
It will be important for Liverpool to ensure they secure Champions League qualification. It seems unlikely that Bellingham would choose a move to Anfield over other potential suitors if he’s not guaranteed to play in the competition.
