Report: Manchester City working on potential deal to sign Bukayo Saka
Manchester City are working on plans to try and sign Bukayo Saka and taking an active interest in his contract talks with Arsenal, according to a report from 90min.
Saka is returning to the Gunners off the back of an outstanding World Cup. The 21-year-old went into the tournament seemingly facing a battle for his place in the England side.
However, Saka took his chance with both hands. Along with Jude Bellingham, he was surely the Three Lions’ best player in Qatar.
Manchester City working on Saka deal
Arsenal clearly know how special a player he is. As 90min notes, the Gunners are working on agreeing a new contract with the forward and are prepared to make him their highest-paid player.
What will not help Mikel Arteta’s men is that City are lurking in the background.
Manchester City’s interest is hardly new. ESPN reported earlier this year that they could make a move if Arsenal missed out on the top-four last season.
90min suggests that Manchester City are now monitoring the negotiations between Saka and the Gunners. And they are drawing up plans to sign him in case an agreement cannot be reached.
Losing Saka would be a huge blow for Arsenal. He is a ‘special‘ talent who has dealt superbly with every single challenge put in front of him during his career.
Staying at the Emirates appeared to be the best move for Saka at this stage of his career. The Gunners are developing under Mikel Arteta. And there is no point moving somewhere where he may not be one of the first names on the team sheet.
But expectations have now changed for Arsenal. They are fighting for the Premier League title. Saka has got a taste of fighting for silverware with his boyhood club.
If the Gunners capitalise on their current position, you would struggle to see why he would want to leave.
But if they now fall away, Saka may perhaps feel that he has a tougher decision – particularly if Manchester City are ready to offer him a fresh challenge.
