Report: Liverpool and Manchester City could move for Saka this summer

Liverpool and Manchester City are both interested in signing Bukayo Saka, and could make a move for the Arsenal star this summer should the Gunners miss out on the top four, according to a report from ESPN.

Saka is the jewel in the crown amongst the youngsters at Mikel Arteta’s disposal. The 20-year-old has scored six goals and contributed four assists in the Premier League this season. And there have been times this season when the England international has probably not even been at his best.

Reports in December claimed that Liverpool were monitoring Saka. Arsenal meanwhile, had spoken to his representatives regarding a new contract.

It is hard to imagine Saka moving elsewhere right now. But the Gunners’ task of keeping the attacking midfielder has perhaps got a lot more difficult.

ESPN reports that Manchester City have joined Liverpool in monitoring Saka. And it is stated that the pair could make their bids for the youngster if Arsenal miss out on the top four this season.

As things stand, Arteta’s side have a lot to do to secure a Champions League spot. They are currently sixth, two points behind Manchester United.

They do have a game in hand over Ralf Rangnick’s men. But Tottenham are just behind Arsenal, and have played a game fewer themselves.

Turning down Liverpool or Manchester City will be difficult for any player. Saka meanwhile, looks to have the potential to reach the very top of the game.

Roy Keane claimed that he is a ‘special‘ player. And he backed Saka to play for any of the big clubs around the world.

Having said that, Saka – who was pictured hugging Jurgen Klopp after facing Liverpool this season – would seemingly love nothing more than to achieve all kinds of success with Arsenal. So it is surely going to take something remarkable to lure him away.

Arsenal appear to be building a side that has a lot of potential. And with that, Saka would be forgiven for wanting to stick around for one more year to see where they are going.

He does not need to be in a rush to leave, by any means.
