Report: Manchester City to offer three players in quest to sign Tottenham star

Manchester City are to offer three players to Tottenham as makeweights in their attempts to sign Harry Kane, Fabrizio Romano has claimed.

The transfer guru and journalist has said that the Citizens are preparing to make their first move for the England man.

The £100 million bid looks like the absolute minimum that City will open with; although three players are being mentioned by Romano.

Aymeric Laporte, Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling are the trio suggested as potential swap options.

Daniel Levy faces a fight to keep Kane at Tottenham this summer. It seems almost certain that the first bid will be knocked back.

The three City names mentioned are interesting though. Laporte in particular is intriguing given Tottenham need a centre-back.

The 27-year-old has been at City since 2018. He has made 111 appearances for the club, winning four League Cups and three Premier League titles.

Last season the £120,000-a-week star struggled for starts in the team, following the arrival of Ruben Dias.

The other two names are unlikely to fill Tottenham with any real excitement.

Sterling has regressed over the last 12 months, whilst Jesus has often struggled for consistency at City.

Tottenham won’t want to sell Kane but they could be powerless. If the player really wants to leave, they might be forced to ensure they get the very best deal for the 27-year-old.

This saga looks like rumbling on for a little while longer yet.

Tottenham have to consider Laporte suggestion

Sterling and Jesus in the deal for Kane don’t make a deal of sense. If Tottenham net in excess of £100 million for their player, a striker will surely be on their hit list.

Spurs are desperate for a centre-back though. As a result, adding Laporte for very little in the way of a transfer fee makes perfect sense.

He is experienced and provides Tottenham with a massive upgrade on Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.

Losing Kane might be unfathomable for Spurs but adding Laporte would certainly help soften the blow somewhat.
