Report: Liverpool want 17-cap star; player stalling on new deal
Liverpool are keen on signing Roma midfielder and Italian star, Lorenzo Pellegrini, during the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has become one of the standout out Italian talents in Serie A in recent seasons. As a central midfielder, Pellegrini has a bit of everything about him. He can attack and create, but is also not afraid to do the less glamorous aspects in the middle of the park.
Liverpool are on the lookout for a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum. And according to Mundo Deportivo, they hold a big interest in Pellegrini.
It is claimed Pellegrini is stalling on a new deal in Rome. That has caught the eye of Barcelona and Liverpool. However, the Catalan giants are also thought to be reluctant to pay a supposed £26m asking-price.
Roma, though, are faced with a tricky situation now. Pellegrini has just a year to run on his current deal. Should they want a good chunk of money, then the time is now for them to sell.
Liverpool’s interest follows up on initial reports over a month ago that claimed Jurgen Klopp had looked at Pellegrini.
Pellegrini to Liverpool? A perfect signing for the Reds if they can do it
You won’t find many better on the current market for the price mentioned than Pellegrini. And with Liverpool needing to replace Wijnaldum, it looks a perfect deal.
The Italian is all-action and crucially, produces the goods when it matters. 11 goals and 9 assists across all competitions last season show that.
FSG have already shown they’re willing to back Klopp this summer. The signing of Konate is a big one. But replacing Wijnaldum is also massive.
The Dutcman is set to leave a big void in the Reds’ midfield. If the club can indeed land Pellegrini, then it’s a move they simply have to make.
