Report: Liverpool could move for Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini
According to the Mirror, Liverpool could make a move for Roma and Italy midfielder, Lorenzo Pellegrini, as they seek summer reinforcements.
Pellegrini is being touted for a potential move away from the Italian capital. It follows on from Jose Mourinho’s arrival and comes as Pellegrini, 24, is yet to agree fresh contract terms with Roma.
His current deal runs until the summer of 2022. But with Mourinho now in charge and likely to want to bring his own signings in, Pellegrini could be sold on to help raise funds for the former Spurs boss.
The Mirror states that if Pellegrini does not sign his new deal by the summer, then Roma will sell. This could play into the hands of Liverpool, who are going to be looking for a Gini Wijnaldum replacement.
Pellegrini has been acting captain for the Rome club and is highly-rated in Italy. He’s already won 17 caps for his country, and was previously branded ‘phenomenal’ by Roma legend, Franceso Totti.
TBR View: Pellegrini a fine player and could be cheaper than expected
You don’t get the chance to sign 24-year-old midfielders with the talent Pellegrini has too often, so if this comes around then Liverpool have to seize their moment.
Especially with Wijnaldum going out of the door. Pellegrini has everything needed to succeed in the Premier League, and is already a proven commodity in Serie A.
You don’t get glowing endorsements off the likes of Totti for nothing. The Reds, then, should make their move as soon as possible.
