Report: Liverpool target Saul Niguez is an option for Chelsea

Liverpool target Saul Niguez is a possibility for Chelsea in the remaining days of the window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s the story?

The Spaniard is reportedly a target for the Reds, with Jurgen Klopp open to signing the Atletico Madrid ace.

Liverpool were rocked by the departure of Gini Wijnaldum, who left on a free transfer. Centre-half Ibrahima Konate has been the only addition to Klopp’s squad so far this summer.

Chelsea will decide this week if they want to pursue a deal for another midfielder. Meanwhile, Tiemoué Bakayoko is close to joining AC Milan on a loan deal with an option for a permanent move.

Liverpool need to sign a midfielder

Last season was a lesson to Liverpool and Klopp.

Injuries can come at any point and, when they do, they can be incredibly disruptive.

The Rise and Fall of Werder Bremen: What Went Wrong?

Liverpool’s centre-half crisis should be enough for the club to go into the market and chase a new midfielder.

An injury at any point this season and no midfield signing, coupled with Wijnaldum’s departure, is a recipe for disaster.

Jordan Henderson has a less than desirable injury record in recent seasons. The England international missed large chunks of the last campaign thanks to a groin issue.

Is Klopp really willing to let the £45m-rated Niguez join Chelsea when he desperately needs him?

It would be a bad move from the club and their German boss.
