Report: Liverpool ready to sell five players this summer, if the price is right

ESPN claim that a quintet of Liverpool fringe players will be sold this summer if the Anfield club receive ‘the right offer’. Namely, those players are Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri and Loris Karius. They have already brought in £26million from sales.

Harry Wilson joining Fulham, Taiwo Awoniyi moving to Union Berlin and Marko Grujic’s permanent Porto move has seen Liverpool rake in the best part of £30million. But Michael Edwards wants more. The report claims Liverpool are ready to sell five players this summer at the right price.

Oxlade-Chamberlain got a goal against Hertha Berlin on Thursday evening, but is a target for West Ham. Xherdan Shaqiri is a target for Maurizio Sarri’s Lazio. Time will tell – whether Keita, Karius and Origi will be on the books at Anfield come the start of the 2021-22 season.

Liverpool transfer news: Of the five, Origi, Karius and Shaqiri must go

But surely getting rid of Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain is harsh on both players? The latter has caught the eye in pre-season and there have even been reports he could become a false nine. Keita has excelled when given a chance – but the chance has been rare due to a lack of momentum.

Injuries have hampered both players. In fairness to Liverpool, both are injury prone and they need players who are the opposite. But when Keita and £120,000-a-weel (Spotrac) Oxlade-Chamberlain are on form – they are good enough competition for Liverpool’s midfield.

In other Liverpool transfer news other than the five that could leave, the Reds have been given the chance to sign a rival player.
