Report: Liverpool more dangerous than Arsenal in race to sign 'world-class' player, Klopp's a big fan
Mikel Arteta has been linked with a move to his former teammate Bennacer ahead of the January transfer window.
Bennacer left Arsenal in search of regular football back in 2019 after spending two years in north London.
Calciomercato reported earlier this week that the Gunners could be lining up a bid to bring the 25-year-old back to the Emirates Stadium.
But it seems that Liverpool, who are also in need of midfield reinforcements, are currently the most serious side about signing him.
Liverpool more dangerous than Arsenal to sign Bennacer
SOS Fanta reports that Bennacer is open to extending his stay in Milan and has even recently hired a new agent – Enzo Raiola.
The player’s representatives have held positive talks with the Rossoneri this week but Klopp really appreciates Bennacer’s qualities.
The outlet described Liverpool as the ‘most dangerous’ side in the race to sign Bennacer due to Klopp’s apparent admiration for the midfielder.
The German boss is currently considering a host of options to re-shape his midfield, including Jude Bellingham, Enzo Fernandez and Sofyan Amrabat.
But with Liverpool eyeing a possible bid for Bennacer, Stefano Pioli’s men are eager to get their star to put pen to paper.
Bennacer has really kicked on since leaving Arsenal and has been a standout performer for the Rossoneri in the middle of the park. The Algerian helped Milan to lift the Scudetto last season and has been a mainstay in midfield.
Of course, Arsenal already had Bennacer on their books but they allowed him to leave after he made just one first-team appearance for the club.
He’s since been described as a ‘world-class’ midfielder and Arsenal certainly need to add some depth to their squad.
Bennacer has just 18-months left on his current deal with Milan and it’s no surprise that top clubs are monitoring his situation in Italy.
Liverpool seem to be more in need of a midfielder heading into the January window, but it remains unclear whether they will wait until next summer to secure their top targets in Bellingham and Fernandez.
Arsenal are lacking quality depth in the middle of the park with just Mohamed Elneny and Albert Sambi Lokonga as back-up options to Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka. But the Gunners will probably be prioritising bringing in a new attacker after Gabriel Jesus’ injury.
