Report: Liverpool have now made a concrete approach to sign £51m attacker who dreams of the Premier League
Liverpool have made a concrete approach to sign Antony from Ajax, but taking the interest further depends on Mo Salah’s future.
A report by Brazilian media outlet UOL claims that Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle have made firm approaches for the forward.
It is said that he would prefer to join one of the two biggest clubs in English football – Liverpool or United – and the latter have of course just appointed his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag.
Liverpool are waiting to see what Salah does, with the contract saga which has rumbled on all season still not resolved.
Liverpool make concrete approach for Antony
Their report reads: “The young striker has received concrete approaches in recent weeks from at least three Premier League clubs, where he has the ambition to play from June: Liverpool, Manchester United and also Newcastle, who, in turn, currently are out of contention.
“Still with no official proposals on the table, the 22-year-old Brazilian, who in April came to be linked with Barcelona, prefers the giants Liverpool and Manchester United.
“Before defining the strategy to advance the talks by Antony, Liverpool, however, want to resolve the future of idol Mohamed Salah, who has a contract valid only until June 2023. It is not clear at this time whether Salah will renew.
“Ajax recognizes behind the scenes the strong possibility of closing a deal in the coming weeks. Dutch media have said that the Amsterdam club envisions a deal between 50 and 60 million euros (£42.5 – £51 million).“
Perhaps the uncertainty over Salah and ten Hag going to Old Trafford hands United an advantage on paper but Liverpool’s transfer operation has been so much better than their bitter rivals’ for years now.
That means if they really need and want Antony, they are just as likely to get him.
Luis Diaz’s sensational impact lessens the need for a new forward even if Salah goes, and the Brazilian would probably hit the ground running at Anfield if he came.
