Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claim Liverpool are ready to include Dejan Lovren in a deal to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly this summer as part of a player-plus-cash deal.
Liverpool were first linked with the 33-time Senegal international last week, with reports claiming the Reds want to sign the 28-year-old – and were willing to sell Joel Matip in order to accomodate Koulibaly, as per TuttoMercatoWeb.
Koulibaly continues to be regarded as one of the best central defenders in European football, with his teammate Lorenzo Insigne once describing Koulibaly as the best centre-back in Europe.
Foot Mercato have claimed that Koulibaly is also a target for Newcastle this summer, with interested parties have to spend a whopping £70million. However, including Lovren in such a deal may bring that fee down.
TBR’s view – Move suits all parties involved
Indeed, Napoli will need to replace the loss of Koulibaly and although Lovren has begun to show weakness in a fast-paced, physical Premier League, the slower Serie A will suit the former Southampton and Lyon defender to a tee.
Lovren would be an ideal replacement for Koulibaly, saving Liverpool some money and handing Napoli immediate cover. What fee would be acceptable for Liverpool with Lovren included? If Liverpool can agree £50million plus Lovren, it is good business.
