Liverpool reportedly want player that Lorenzo Insigne described as ‘best in Europe’

Lorenzo Insigne is a name that will be well known among Liverpool fans. Their club have been continuously linked with the pocket-sized dynamo window after window, but the Reds are now reportedly after one of his teammates – and Insigne is a fan.

Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb claimed Liverpool had opened talks to sign 28-year-old giant Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, as a potential replacement for Joel Matip – who could be sold to make way for the current Napoli giant.

Foot Mercato claim Koulibaly is worth a whopping £70million, but Sky Italy transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has stated he believes that Koulibaly will leave Napoli this summer. The Italian journalist also reckons Tottenham are interested.

A report from Le10Sport also claimed that Newcastle had tabled an offer worth £200,000 a week for Koulibaly. The Premier League is a potential move for Koulibaly this summer, then, and Insigne reckons he is the best defender in Europe.

At the start of last season, Insigne told a press conference – as quoted by Football Italia: “I feel the Coach’s confidence and I feel good. I want to have a better season than the last one. Koulibaly is Europe’s best defender.”

TBR’s view – Koulibaly and van Dijk can take Liverpool to next level

Yes, Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League and are one of the most-feared teams in European football. But there are still lapses in concentration at the back – the 2-0 loss to Napoli and the recent 3-0 defeat to Watford.

Koulibaly alongside van Dijk would be a partnership that would take Liverpool’s defence to the next level. Van Dijk is the best central defender in European football and Koulibaly is arguably the second best. Combining the duo would be amazing.
