Report: Liverpool believe they've just won the race to sign 'tremendous' player

Liverpool believe they have won the race to sign Darwin Nunez, according to 90Min.

The Reds have been heavily linked with the Benfica star in recent days.

Earlier today, Pedro Sepulveda told Sky Sports News that Liverpool had made a formal offer.

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano claimed the Reds were in advanced talks over an €80m verbal bid.

The Italian also claimed Liverpool had already discussed personal terms with Nunez.

However, Manchester United are reportedly also in pursuit of the Uruguay international.

Now, 90Min has delivered an update which will be music to the Anfield faithful’s ears.

The Liverpool hierarchy reportedly believes they’ve all-but sealed the deal for Nunez.

Apparently, the offer of Champions League football and Premier League title challenges helped sway his decision.

The report added that Benfica have been seeking a deal worth €100m for Nunez with €20m of that in bonuses and add-ons.

Apparently, the fee Liverpool will pay has not yet been finalised.

There is, however, an expectation that the two sides will come to an agreement soon.

With Sadio Mane seemingly edging towards a departure from Liverpool, Nunez would be an incredible replacement.

“Like a fish in water”

Jose Gomes, Nunez’ manager at Almeria, reckons the player would be a huge success at Liverpool.

He told Portuguese outlet Record: “Physically very powerful and with tremendous potential. He is an athlete of 1.90 metres and with tremendous speed.

“The speed he has allows the team where he plays to reach the opposing goal very easily.

“Not only for the coach (Klopp) himself, who is a motivator and an enthusiast, but also for the style of play he advocates.

“Klopp likes to play looking for spaces in the back of the opposing defensive lines, which means that we can say that Darwin will feel like a fish in water.

“Speed and quick attacks are characteristics that he favours. He will certainly succeed at Liverpool.”
