Manchester United are set to meet Darwin Nunez’s agent Jorge Mendes today to try and convince him not to join Liverpool.
Journalist Pedro Sepulveda told Sky Sports News that Liverpool have made a formal offer and now United are on the back foot.
They are trying to get back into the chase by speaking to Jorge Mendes to see if there is anything they can do to get Nunez to join them.
But the Benfica striker is apparently already dreaming of Anfield and the Champions League there, where he would be at the forefront of their attack.

United set to meet Nunez’s agent
“There are another two English clubs interested in him – Newcastle and Manchester United,” he said.
“The information that I have is that Benfica didn’t receive a formal bid from either of those clubs.
“But I also have the information that today, Manchester United will have a meeting with Jorge Mendes, Darwin Nunez’s new agent.
“United know Benfica already received an official offer from Liverpool and they want to sit with Mendes and see if they can do something.
“This meeting will not take place in England. The player is already thinking about playing in Anfield and it will be so difficult to convince him to join Manchester United or Newcastle.”

Liverpool’s transfer operation is one of the slickest and most efficient around and this deal looks to be moving forward quickly.
It has been well-known United need a striker for months, but their lack of Champions League football hampers them in the chase for big names.
Liverpool look like they will need a replacement for Sadio Mane, who led the line in the closing weeks of the season, and Nunez could well be that man.
