Report: Liverpool believe huge bid's required for 24-year-old Klopp admirers; Reds' stance on move shared
Liverpool have been put off making a move for Youri Tielemans this summer as they believe that they would need to make a huge bid just to tempt Leicester City into discussing a deal, according to a report from The Telegraph.
Tielemans has established himself as one of the outstanding midfielders in the Premier League since moving to the King Power Stadium.
And of course, he secured his place in Foxes folklore with the screamer that settled this year’s FA Cup final.
Unsurprisingly, Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the Belgian. Previous reports claimed that he wanted to sign him this summer.
However, it was also claimed that the Foxes would want £70 million for Tielemans.
So perhaps the latest from The Telegraph should come as little surprise as well.
They claim that a move in this window is unlikely. Liverpool believe that they would need to make a huge offer to even tempt Leicester to consider a sale.
The 2015/16 Premier League champions meanwhile, are working to tie Tielemans down to a new contract.
The Telegraph notes that he has been offered fresh terms with his current deal expiring in 2023. And crucially, they are confident of keeping him.
Liverpool fans were probably realistic about chances of Tielemans move – but report will still be a disappointment
Given the current climate, it is hard to see many clubs going close to breaking their transfer records this summer.
And Liverpool fans would have likely already been aware that meeting Leicester’s demands for Tielemans was always unlikely.
Having said that, the report will still disappoint many. Tielemans is a brilliant talent.
And many Liverpool supporters were raving about him during Euro 2020. So they may have held a small amount of hope that the Reds may stun everyone and make the huge offer required.
Unfortunately, as things stand, it appears that Klopp’s side are ready to accept defeat on this occasion.
