Report: Liverpool will need to pay £70m to land Leicester's Youri Tielemans
Liverpool will need to pay around the £70m mark if they want to land Youri Tielemans from Leicester City during the summer transfer window.
That’s the verdict from the Leicester Mercury, who claim that the Foxes will demand mega money if they are to even consider selling the Belgian.
Tielemans’ stock has never been higher thanks to his FA Cup winner. The former Anderlecht man rifled a shot into the top corner to seal glory for Brendan Rodgers’ side at Wembley.
However, he is only under contract until 2023 and the Foxes are becoming nervy about his situation. The club are desperate to tie him down to fresh terms, with Liverpool and others circling.
Calciomercato, as covered previously on TBR, have claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keeping tabs on Tielemans. The Reds are seeking a replacement for Gini Winaldum and, naturally, the Leicester man appears a good fit.
However, Liverpool may struggle finding the £70m Leicester want. The Reds have just spent over £30m on Ibrahima Konate. Further, FSG are wanting to be careful with what the club spends coming out of the pandemic.
Leicester, then, could well hold all the aces when it comes to Tielemans.
Tielemans to Liverpool sounds amazing for Reds fans but big money needed
And rightly so. Why should Leicester sell one of their best players for peanuts in the current market?
Tielemans is a world-class operator who the Foxes have helped develop during his time with the club. A true midfielder in every sense, the Belgian can do a little bit of everything in midfield.
In fairness, £70m might even be quite a cheap price, given what some lesser players go for in the market. Put simply, if Liverpool want Tielemans, then they’ll have to pay up or shut up.
He really is that important to the Foxes.
