Report: Levy irritated by rumours Conte could now leave Tottenham

The distraction caused by the rumours concerning the future of Antonio Conte will irritate Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy, according to a report from The Athletic.

When Tottenham thrashed Aston Villa 4-0 earlier this month, it appeared that Spurs may be on the cusp of something special. They had not been perfect at Villa Park by any means, but they picked up an emphatic win.

The result put Spurs three points clear in the battle for fourth in the Premier League. And they appeared to have all of the momentum. However, much has changed since.

Spurs have failed to beat Brighton and Brentford, and fallen to fifth. Meanwhile, there are rumours that Conte is ready to move to Paris Saint-Germain amid speculation over Mauricio Pochettino’s future.

It has been suggested that there is nothing in the reports. But given that Conte has previously flirted with the idea of leaving, some Tottenham fans may fear what the Italian will do.

Levy meanwhile, is unlikely to be happy with the speculation surrounding Conte either. The Athletic reports that sources have indicated that the chairman is set to be irritated with the rumours.

It is noted that it is around a year since Harry Kane publicly spoke about his own future.

Levy appointed the wrong manager at Tottenham if he hoped for quiet time under Conte

Of course, Levy can feel irritated. There appears to be so much riding on the final weeks of the season. Keeping the likes of Conte and Kane will be much easier if they qualify for the Champions League. And that could also leave them with the platform to really launch themselves.

But he can hardly have expected things to be plain-sailing under Conte. He is someone who has turned the club down in the past. And he is an ‘incredible‘ manager. So he must have known, much like Kane, there was a good chance that speculation would never go away completely.
