Report: Leicester want Maguire-like fee for player linked with Newcastle, Chelsea have opened talks

Foot Mercato say Leicester want to rake in a similar fee for Wesley Fofana to the one they received for Harry Maguire, as Chelsea and Newcastle lurk.

Fofana, 20, remains on the sidelines with a long-term knee injury which he sustained in pre-season. In his first season, he clocked up 38 appearances.

The France Under-21 star was excellent in his first campaign, after joining the club from Ligue 1 side St. Etienne for a fee of £30million (Sky Sports).

Manchester United spent an enormous £80million to sign Maguire in the summer of 2019. Now, Leicester want a similar fee if they are to sell Fofana.

The new report says Chelsea have opened talks to sign the Frenchman. It comes after RMC Sport claim via GFFN said Newcastle were in talks.

Fofana for £80million: Newcastle and Chelsea must consider future

It is a hefty price for a player that has played just 38 games for Leicetser, only 34 of which came in English football. He is still learning the ropes.

What Fofana did show in those 28 Premier League games and six cup appearances is that he is a proper wonderkid. He has enormous potential.

Yes, £80million is a ridiculous amount of money. But in this day and age, £72million buys you Nicolas Pepe at Arsenal.

Newcastle and Chelsea must remember, buying Fofana could set them defensively for the next 10-15 years. Then, it becomes a bargain.
