Leeds United are very interested in signing Oscar Mingueza and have asked Barcelona about the centre-back’s availability ahead of the summer, according to Sport.

Leeds have reason to be optimistic that they will be spending another year in the Premier League. Their two wins on the spin heading into the international break has put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

Of course, supporters will be hoping that lessons shall be learned if Leeds stay up. And they will hope for some exciting movement in the transfer market.

One transfer that currently looks to be on the cards is that of Raphinha. The Brazilian has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Barcelona. A fee is still to be discussed.

But it would appear that he may not be the only player the two clubs discuss this summer. Sport reports that Leeds have asked about Mingueza.

The Whites are very interested in the 22-year-old. And he could move on loan or permanently.

The report also suggests that Mingueza’s future being involved in the negotiations over Raphinha may be possible.

Mingueza could be a smart signing for Leeds – if a centre-back leaves

Mingueza could be a good signing for Leeds. He can play at centre-back or at right-back. But it does seem to be in the middle where his long-term future lies.

The problem Leeds have is that Jesse Marsch already has a healthy group of centre-back options. Liam Cooper, Robin Koch, Diego Llorente and Pascal Struijk are the frontline quartet. Meanwhile, Charlie Cresswell and Leo Hjelde are knocking on the door.

Mingueza boasts some outstanding numbers in comparison with the other centre-backs in Europe’s top five leagues, according to FB Ref. He has been capped by Spain.

But Leeds may not be working with a huge budget this summer. So a move for a new central defender is not a priority – unless one of the key men leave.
