Leeds may have to be prepared to make Dan James their second most expensive signing ever if they hope to land the Wales international at long last, with The Telegraph reporting that Manchester United would want up to £25 million for the winger.

It was probably not a surprise to some that as soon as Rodrigo De Paul finally sealed a move away from Udinese, fresh links with James emerged.

The 23-year-old appears to have been on the Whites’ radar a lot longer than the Argentinian – who ultimately joined Atletico Madrid.

Of course, James was seemingly a signature away from joining Marcelo Bielsa’s side in 2019.

Months later, he would sign for Manchester United. But with Leeds returning to the Premier League the following year, James seemingly found himself back on the club’s radar.

And it appears that Leeds are, once again, looking at the youngster. It was recently reported that Victor Orta had reignited his interest.

Phil Hay subsequently suggested on his podcast that Bielsa may ultimately be forever interested in signing the wide-man.

It remains to be seen if Leeds make an approach this summer. But a report has now shared how much any admirer may have to be prepared to pay.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester United want up to £25 million amid Burnley interest. It is claimed that that figure prices the Clarets out of the race.

Leeds making significant offer for Dan James surely not out of the question

Leeds have shown that they are prepared to part with those sorts of sums. They broke their transfer record to sign Rodrigo last summer.

James would be their second-most expensive signing ever if he moved to Elland Road.

But if he is a player Bielsa is always open to leaving the door open for, perhaps the Whites will be tempted to ask the question this summer.

It is not essential Leeds sign a wide-man. But it would be a real statement of intent.
