Report: Leeds still considering Ben Foster move despite his comments
Leeds United are still considering a move for Ben Foster this summer with the Whites keen to sign an experienced back-up goalkeeper, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
Illan Meslier has been one of the stars of pre-season for Jesse Marsch’s men. In particular, his first-half display against Aston Villa was simply remarkable.
Kristoffer Klaesson has been his understudy over the last 12 months. And the Norwegian stepped up in a big way when Leeds needed him on that dramatic night at Molineux last season.
However, Klaesson definitely had his critics ahead of that display. He had not been the most convincing for the under-23s for much of the campaign.
And it seems that Leeds are not quite sure about keeping Klaesson as their number two just yet.
Reports earlier in the summer claimed that the Whites were keen on Foster. The 39-year-old is a free agent after leaving Watford this summer.
And it seems that he remains on Leeds’ radar. The Daily Mail reports that the Whites are continuing to consider Foster.
Ben Foster could be a smart signing for Leeds
Foster is obviously coming towards the end of his career. But there is no doubt that he could be a shrewd addition for the club.
Meslier is an unbelievable talent. But he needed to be taken out of the firing line at some stage last season. And having someone like Foster in the ranks could have been ideal. Roy Hodgson labelled him ‘top-class‘ during his stint at Vicarage Road.
Interestingly, Foster suggested that Leeds will struggle this season in a recent YouTube video. But he did praise Jesse Marsch, saying he loved the Whites boss.
It seems that the idea of the two working together this coming season remains on the table.
