Report: Leeds offer more up front than RB Leipzig in Josko Gvardiol race

Leeds United’s bid for Josko Gvardiol includes a larger up front fee than what RB Leipzig have initially put on the table for the defender, but 24Sata has suggested that no resolution is expected any time soon.

Gvardiol has looked set to potentially become one of Marcelo Bielsa’s next signings this summer. The Daily Mail reported last month that Leeds had entered talks with Dinamo Zagreb regarding a possible move for the 18-year-old.

However, the Bundesliga side have attempted to throw a spanner in the works. Gvardiol – who did little to quash speculation by following both clubs on social media – has reportedly also attracted an offer from Leipzig.

Croatian outlet 24Sata has suggested that Leipzig’s initial offer is lower than Leeds’s bid which is worth around £18 million. However, their offer could go past that figure due to add-ons.

And it appears that it could be a while before Gvardiol’s future is decided.

The report notes that Gvardiol will be going nowhere until Dinamo face Ferencvaros in their Champions League third qualifying round tie later this month. So it would appear that it will be more than a week before his next move potentially becomes apparent.

TBR View: Opportunity for Leeds to make important statement

It would be a big statement for Leeds to beat Leipzig to Gvardiol’s signature. Julian Nagelsmann’s men reached the Champions League semi-final last year, so he could certainly be forgiven for being tempted by a switch to Germany.

Leeds have plenty to offer. Gvardiol would certainly be in the mix to play for Bielsa’s side. And his decision to follow both clubs on social media arguably hints that he would not be unhappy to join either.

But with Gvardiol reportedly staying put for a little longer, it will be fascinating to see how the coming days play out.
