Leeds United will have to see off competition from Barcelona for Sergio Gomez, with Jeunes Footeux in France reporting that Xavi is a big fan of the young left-back.
Leeds have their eye on strengthening at full-back this summer. It has been a difficult first season for Junior Firpo at Elland Road. He has shown glimpses of his quality. But he has come in for a lot of criticism along the way.

Reports this week claimed that Leeds want Gomez. He has enjoyed an amazing campaign with Anderlecht, scoring six goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions.
The report noted that Real Madrid, Ajax and Atalanta also want the 21-year-old. But it would appear that Leeds’ chances of a deal have been dealt a further blow.

Jeunes Footeux is now reporting that Barcelona also want Gomez. Xavi is a big admirer of the defender. In fact, it is suggested that he is seen as a potential successor to Jordi Alba at the Nou Camp.
The report adds that he is set to cost at least £15 million.
Gomez set to succeed Firpo at Barcelona rather than Leeds?
Of course, one of the last players to provide cover for Alba at Barca was Firpo. The 25-year-old left the Catalan giants in the summer after two years as his backup.
That deal may now hurt Leeds’ chances of signing Gomez. Barca do appear to need greater depth in that area of the field. And Gomez came through the ranks at La Masia. So he may welcome the chance to return.
Leeds may still fancy their chances. If they can offer Gomez a starting spot from next season, Jesse Marsch’s men may well be well-placed to spring a surprise.
