Leeds United are monitoring the situation surrounding Neal Maupay following the injury sustained by Patrick Bamford at the weekend, according to a report from 90min.

Bamford has endured a torrid time over the last 12 months. He missed much of last season due to injury. And he had to come off during the first-half of Saturday’s draw with Southampton.

Jesse Marsch issued a positive update on his fitness after the game. But with Joe Gelhardt also sidelined for the trip to the south coast, the fans clearly feel that there are now no excuses not to sign another striker.

Unfortunately for those supporters, the one they potentially have in mind has a bit of history with the Whites.

According to 90min, Leeds are keeping an eye on Maupay.

Maupay looks set to leave Brighton in this window. And up until today, it seemed that he was destined to become the latest in a long line of players to join Nottingham Forest.

90min reports that Forest have had a bid accepted. But there is interest from elsewhere. The report notes that both Everton and Fulham have made contact about a potential deal.

Reports have suggested that he will cost £15 million.

Maupay would be a really intriguing target for Leeds. He definitely divides opinion. Clearly, he possesses a lot of quality, with Graham Potter claiming in the past that he is ‘incredible‘. But he has never been the most prolific goalscorer in the Premier League.

He also has an interesting relationship with the Elland Road faithful.

He has been involved in a few confrontations with supporters when he has scored against Leeds.

And last season, he poked fun at the fans while Brighton were 1-0 up at Elland Road in a pivotal game for Jesse Marsch’s side.

In many ways, Maupay is an ideal target. He has scored goals in the top-flight. And he will not cost a huge amount.

However, there are going to be a huge number of fans who want nothing to do with the 26-year-old.
