Report: Leeds lead race for Tommaso Pobega transfer
Leeds United are one of the teams that lead the race to sign midfielder Tommaso Pobega from AC Milan in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Calciomercato.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are preparing for their second year back in the Premier League. And one of the areas that they will surely look to strengthen is in the middle of the park.
Stuart Dallas and Mateusz Klich shouldered much of that responsibility this term. But with Dallas the ultimate utility player, and Klich’s form dipping at one stage, Leeds will surely look at potential options.
And one of the players reportedly on their radar is Pobega.
According to Calciomercato, Leeds and Eintracht Frankfurt are the two sides showing the most interest in the 21-year-old.
Pobega goes into the summer off the back of a superb loan spell.
He scored six goals and provided three assists for Spezia in Serie A. His form helped the club stay in the top flight for a second straight year.
Calciomercato reports that AC Milan are now weighing up whether they want to keep Pobega.
It is noted that the Rossoneri may decide to hold onto the 21-year-old as they prepare for next year’s Champions League. He came through the academy at San Siro, so that works in his favour.
But the report claims that Leeds and Frankfurt are leading the race of those keen to lure him away from Milan.
Pobega transfer could be shrewd move from Leeds as Bielsa looks for new midfielder
Pobega may not be a new name to Leeds supporters. The club were initially linked with the youngster back in February, with Milan potentially wanting £10.5 million.
It remains to be seen what sort of price his admirers may have to pay now that the summer window is opening.
But anything around that previously-quoted figure would open the door for an inspired piece of business.
Pobega has already impressed at the highest level, and he does not turn 22 until next month.
If Milan are open to a sale, Leeds must look to capitalise.
