Report: Leeds keen on 23-year-old PL rival are open to selling

Leeds United are interested in signing Todd Cantwell from Norwich City during the January transfer window, according to a report from the Daily Mail.

The Whites have eased their relegation concerns with a huge win in the Premier League on Sunday. Marcelo Bielsa’s side won 3-1 against Burnley at Elland Road to move eight points clear of the bottom three.

Nevertheless, it does appear to still be important that Leeds strengthen this month. Bielsa’s side have dealt with an incredible number of injuries. And the clubs below them in the table will be looking to be busy while the window is open.

Interestingly, the Daily Mail suggests that one player on their radar is Cantwell.

DIVOCK ORIGI DOES NOT MAKE SENSE.

Hard to see Todd Cantwell ending January transfer window as Leeds player

It has been a torrid season for the 23-year-old. Not only have Norwich really struggled upon their return to English football’s top table, but Cantwell has fallen to the periphery of the squad at Carrow Road.

It baffled many when he struggled for game-time under Daniel Farke. He was superb in the Championship last term. And he was one of the few players in the Norwich squad who had previously stood out at the highest level.

He was also valued at around £40 million in the summer. But his problems appear to have continued under Dean Smith. And The Sun reported recently that Norwich are open to letting him leave.

Cantwell has not played for 90 minutes since August. And he is yet to provide a goal or assist this season.

So clearly, a move would be a gamble for Leeds if they have any interest in pursuing a permanent deal. Presumably, Norwich would still want a hefty fee before selling him this month.

Leeds have options in the areas of the pitch Cantwell tends to occupy. So it is hard to believe that Bielsa will want any of his potential transfer budget for this month used on the youngster.
