Report: Aston Villa reignite interest in £40m-rated talent; injury might force Purslow’s hand
Aston Villa have reportedly reignited their interest in Norwich City winger Todd Cantwell following an injury to Bertrand Traore.
According to the Express, the Midlands side remain keen on the 23-year-old attacker. Cantwell started in Norwich’s 3-0 loss to Liverpool over the weekend. The Canaries are open to selling the youngster for £40m.
Villa have gone big on the window following the departure of Jack Grealish, with Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings all arriving to replace the former club captain.
However, CEO Christian Purslow could make another signing this window.
With Traore sustaining an injury in against Liverpool in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Anfield this week, Villa could be encouraged to make a move for Cantwell.
Egyptian winger Trezeguet is also out on the injury table for some time.
Moreover, Norwich recently signed Greek prospect and winger Christos Tzolis for £10m as reported by Sky Sports News.
And this arrival could help Villa’s cause if they were to make a move for Cantwell in the remaining two weeks of the window.
Villa’s opening day defeat to Watford painted a stark reminder to Dean Smith and supporters that it will take some time for the new signings to gel.
Yet a fourth addition this window in Cantwell could be an exciting signing for the club.
The winger was one of Norwich’s best players in their 2019/20 Premier League campaign. And Cantwell has proved he is ready for a step up in his career from Daniel Farke’s side.
