Report: Leeds interested in Ismaila Sarr and continue to look at Gakpo

Leeds United are interested in Ismaila Sarr, while they are continuing to monitor Cody Gakpo as a replacement for Raphinha, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The Whites have made six first-team signings so far this summer. But there is a feeling amongst the Elland Road faithful that they need more through the door.

Reports earlier this summer claimed that they wanted Gakpo. In fact, the Dutchman was named as their top target with Raphinha heading for the exit.

However, since then, much of the speculation seems to have gone quiet. And fans may have assumed that Leeds were looking elsewhere. But perhaps that may not be the case.

Foot Mercato reports that Leeds remain keen on Gakpo. PSV Eindhoven want £25 million for the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, Arsenal are also monitoring the forward.

But there are other candidates. Foot Mercato adds that Leeds are also monitoring Sarr.

The Senegalese made his first appearance of the Championship season on Monday following Watford’s relegation. But he has been heavily linked with an immediate return to the top-flight.

Once again, £25 million may be enough to land Sarr, based on previous reports.

Leeds interested in Ismaila Sarr

Sarr would be a smart signing for Leeds. It does seem that many want Gakpo. But Sarr is a ‘frightening‘ player in his own right.

And his record in the Premier League is very impressive. In total, he has 10 goals and eight assists in 50 games in the division.

Interestingly, Rennes signed Raphinha shortly after selling Sarr to Watford in 2019. So perhaps it could now be Sarr who replaces Raphinha at Leeds in the coming weeks.
