Report: Leeds could move to sign 'special talent' in midfield if Kalvin Philips does leave this summer

Leeds United could move for Tyler Adams if talisman Kalvin Phillips leaves the club during the transfer window.

The Athletic report that any swoop for Adams is dependent on what happens with England international Phillips.

The report acknowledges the interest from champions Manchester City but says that Leeds are yet to get a formal bid for the midfielder.

Marc Roca has been signed but he is not a replacement for Phillips; instead adding depth to the Leeds’ engine room which was sorely lacking under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds could move for Adams if Phillips leaves

It was expected that City would ramp up their interest once Phillips was done on England duty but it seems they are still waiting to make a formal offer.

It is wise for Leeds to have an idea of who they might get in to replace Phillips, even if they obviously do not want him to leave.

Replacing such an important player is hard, but preparing for it is the best way to do that, although it seems there is still plenty to be done before Phillips leaves City.

Leeds boss Jesse Marsch has worked with Adams before during their time at RB Leipzig and is clearly a big fan, saying three years ago, as per the official Bundesliga website: “The ceiling is massive for him, everyone can see that.

I obviously played a part in Tyler, the eventual move to come here. I knew he’d do well. He’s a special person, he’s a special personality, he’s a special talent and the ceiling for him is massive.

“Massive in Leipzig, the Bundesliga and beyond. So I’m proud to be connected with him and to have played a role in his development and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here.”

Adams and Marsch could be reunited if Phillips does depart and the relationship between the two Americans can only help his adaptation if the midfielder does come to the Premier League.
