Report: Leeds could announce goalkeeper signing next week

Leeds United could announce the signing of a new goalkeeper next week, with Leeds Live reporting that Kristoffer Klaesson sustained an injury at the weekend.

The Whites have been extremely busy this summer. But it would be no surprise to see Jesse Marsch bring in a handful of further signings before the deadline passes.

And one of the names they have looked at is Ben Foster. Reports previously claimed that Leeds have considered a move for the former Watford man, who is now a free agent.

Leeds did not have an experienced backup last season. And that seemed to hurt the side at times when Illan Meslier’s form was coming under some scrutiny.

Klaesson shone when he came on in the dramatic win over Wolves. But his form for the under-23s highlighted that he is probably not quite ready for top-flight football.

Leeds may have been tempted to take a gamble. If they have other priorities, spending some of their budget on another goalkeeper may not have been ideal.

However, it seems that their hand has now been forced.

Leeds Live reports that Klaesson sustained an injury in a behind-closed-doors game on Saturday. And with that, Leeds are stepping up their pursuit of a new goalkeeper. And one could arrive after they have faced Wolves at the weekend. It is not yet clear who they are targeting.

Some fans will be pleased to hear that Leeds could now sign another goalkeeper. It would have been a risk to stick with Meslier and Klaesson given that the Frenchman was not at his best last year.

He has so much potential. But he is also going to have times when he is not able to come to the Whites’ rescue. And with that, having a more experienced understudy could really help.
