Report: League leaders want another Tottenham player

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly scheduled a meeting with Ajax manager Erik Ten Hag over potentially replacing Jose Mourinho, but it has not stopped Ajax from becoming interested in two Spurs players – the first being Toby Alderweireld.

Voetbal Krant claimed earlier this week that Alderweireld, 32, has emerged as a target for Ajax ahead of the summer window. Alderweireld, of course, is one of a number of Spurs players with connections to the Dutch club – playing 186 times.

That news came in the midst that Ten Hag was growing a stronger candidate for the Tottenham job by the day. On Wednesday evening, Fabrizio Romano reported on his Twitter account that Ten Hag and Spurs have pencilled in a meeting to talk.

Now, the latest report from Voetbal24 claims Ajax have another Tottenham player on their radar – and another one with Ajax connections. It is claimed Davinson Sanchez has also been added to Ajax’s shortlist ahead of the summer window.

TBR’s view – Sanchez needs to leave Tottenham

The Colombia international has endured a horrendous run of form at Spurs of late. It has come to the point where Spurs fans now expect Sanchez to make a mistake in every game – one that is big enough to lead to a goal for the opposition.

Since interim boss Ryan Mason took control, Sanchez has been dropped – with Eric Dier and Toby Alderweireld starting at the back. If Spurs are to sign a new defender and Sanchez has already fallen down the rankings, he needs to leave the club.

Can Ajax afford the £65,000-a-week (Spotrac) defender? He cost Spurs a whopping £42million and if you think for a second Daniel Levy will let him leave on the cheap – you are mistaken. The chances are that he stays, or goes on a loan-to-buy deal.

For Sanchez, a return to Ajax could tempt him – the club he left for Spurs in the summer of 2017.
