Report: ‘Key’ Frankfurt man to miss Tottenham Hotspur Champions League match, he’s in ‘too much pain’ to play
Tottenham Hotspur have received a boost ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League match against Eintracht Frankfurt.
Germany publication Bild have relayed comments from Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner.
Glasner has confirmed that Mario Gotze will miss tomorrow’s match against Tottenham due to an ankle injury.
Bild previously reported that Gotze was absent from training today.
Gotze twisted his ankle at the weekend in Frankfurt’s 2-0 win over top of the table Union Berlin.
After the game, coach Oliver Glasner suggested that the injury wasn’t too serious.
“No one has ever walked around the dressing room with alarm sirens. I assume it should work out for him.” Glasner said.
However, it now appears the game has come too quickly for Gotze, who is in ‘too much pain’ to play.
Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krosche described him as a ‘key player’ after the match aginst Union Berlin.
“He always moved well, was always involved, and created lots of space for others.” Korsche said.
Gotze to miss Tottenham match
It’s a big game tomorrow evening for Tottenham’s Champions League hopes in Germany tomorrow.
Antonio Conte’s side are currently level on points with Frankfurt after two matches.
Spurs were disappointing in their last European outing, conceding two late goals against Sporting CP.
Emerson Royal had a poor game against the Portuguese side, and followed it up by being sent off at the weekend against Arsenal.
However, due to his domestic suspension, Conte may be forced to play him tomorrow to avoid his other defenders becoming fatigued.
TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara was also disappointed with Harry Kane, and he’ll be looking to add to his Champions League tally tomorrow.
Tottenham’s north London rivals might also have one eye on this match.
Lindstrom will have an even more important role to play tomorrow now it’s confirmed Gotze will miss their clash against Tottenham.
It’s sure to be a fascinating game, and the outcome could be vital to Tottenham’s European ambitions this season.
