Report: Italy officials monitoring Leeds star Raphinha
Leeds United star Raphinha could be offered the chance to play international football for Italy, with The Telegraph reporting that officials are monitoring the winger.
Raphinha has enjoyed an amazing season. The 24-year-old moved to Elland Road for just £17 million last year.
He went on to score six goals and provide nine assists in the Premier League.
Leeds fans are already incredibly excited to see what Raphinha can do in his second season. It must be noted that he made 26 starts this past year, so he will certainly set his sights on more next term.
And perhaps it may not be too long before his form is recognised on the international stage.
Marcelo Bielsa refused to suggest that Tite should call him up to the Brazil squad this week, insisting that it is not his place to instruct an international boss. But he did label the wide-man a ‘great player’.
And it may be wise for Brazil to pick Raphinha sooner rather than later.
That is because Italian officials are monitoring him, according to The Telegraph. It is suggested that Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli is also on the radar. Both players qualify for the nation.
However, it is not clear what either make of the interest.
International battle for Raphinha may be one Leeds fans welcome
Leeds supporters are probably already getting used to seeing battles for Raphinha start up.
The £28,000-a-week star has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City. He even commented on the links with the former two.
But this is one battle Leeds fans may welcome. Raphinha looks to be too good to not get a chance at international level.
And even if he is not interested in playing for Italy, the admiration from them may just boost his chances of being called up by the country of his birth.
