Report: It is now a case of when and not if ‘special’ Arsenal player signs a new contract

Bukayo Saka is the Arsenal player whose contract talks are the most advanced, compared with Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba.

The Athletic has reported on the latest on the negotiations with the three young stars Arsenal are looking to tie down to extended deals.

They say that part of the reason the talks are taking some time is because Arsenal have set a wage structure as part of their plan to overhaul the club.

Any new contracts have to fit into that, but the report says it is now a case of when and not if the England international puts pen to paper.

Saka new contract talks are now advanced

They report that Mikel Arteta is confident that the deal will get done and that confidence is shared by the talismanic Gunners wideman.

Saka’s current deal runs until 2024, which gives Arsenal some breathing space but they will want to get this wrapped up sooner rather than later.

Saka has been flying lately and scored the winning goal in Sunday’s 1-0 win over Leeds United, in a game where his performance was called ‘special‘.

Saka made the ten-player shortlist for the 2022 Kopa Trophy for the world’s best player under 21, and came eighth at the award ceremony last night, with Barcelona’s Gavi winning.

Last year, he finished sixth, but by the time the award is handed out next time, Saka will hope to be playing in the Champions League for the first time in his career.

If he and Arsenal keep going the way they are, that is exactly what will happen and the Gunners currently sit four points clear at the top of the Premier League.
