Report: 'Incredible' player ready to take pay cut to leave, after being linked with Tottenham transfer
Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte will be hoping to have a few new faces in his squad after the January transfer window.
A report from Gazzetta Dello Sport has provided an update on one of Tottenham’s reported targets.
Spurs will be looking to bring in a player who can challenge Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison.
The pair have been instrumental to Tottenham’s success this season.
However, when Conte lost both players to injury, their results and performances seriously suffered.
Conte has had doubts about playing the likes of Bryan Gil and Lucas Moura, and instead switched up his formation.
This didn’t work as desired, and required the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur to bail Tottenham out to maintain their place in the top four.
One player who could provide that additional competition in the forward areas is Chelsea’s Hakim Ziyech.
Ziyech has been linked with Spurs before, and 90min believe that Graham Potter is happy to let him go.
The report from Gazzetta Dello Sport now provides some good news for Spurs.
They suggest Ziyech is willing to take a pay cut to leave Chelsea in January.
Ziyech willing to take pay cut
There were question marks over whether Ziyech would be in Qatar this month with Morocco.
He had fallen out with previous manager Vahid Halilhodzic last year and retired from international duty.
However, Halilhodzic was sacked earlier this year and Ziyech returned to the national team in time for the World Cup.
Morocco fans will be glad he did after a fantastic performance against Belgium, setting up the second goal.
His new manager Walid Regragui said after the match, “He’s incredible.
“A lot of people talk about Hakim as a difficult guy to manage but what I see is that, when you give him love and confidence, he will die for you”
Ziyech being willing to take a pay cut to leave Chelsea shows just how badly his time in west London has gone.
He’s struggled for minutes ever since arriving from Ajax and failed to show the form that earned him a move to the Premier League.
Antonio Conte has worked his magic in getting the best out of the likes of Kulusevski and Bentancur.
If he could do the same with Ziyech, Spurs would have another exciting winger in their ranks.
