Newcastle United look to be closing in on yet another signing, with Sky Sports reporting on their live transfer blog (30/1; 11:53) that they have agreed a fee for Dan Burn.

The Magpies look to be close to announcing a deal for Bruno Guimaraes. It is set to be one of the most exciting deals of the window amongst Premier League clubs.

But Newcastle are not planning to stop there. They have been pursuing a new centre-back throughout the window. And it was reported that they were pursuing Brighton defender Burn.

Eddie Howe’s side had initially had an £8 million bid rejected. But it was suggested that Newcastle planned to make a fresh offer for Burn, who joined the Seagulls in 2018.

And it now appears that there has been a breakthrough. Sky Sports reports on their live transfer blog (30/1; 11:53) that a £13 million fee has been agreed between the two clubs.

Burn will now reportedly travel to the North-East to undergo a medical before completing his move to Newcastle.

Another shrewd piece of business as Newcastle close in on Dan Burn

Newcastle fans were expecting a lot from this window. They simply have to ensure that they remain in the Premier League going into the summer.

The prospective deal for Guimaraes could be a masterstroke. The Lyon star has been absolutely outstanding in Ligue 1 this season.

But the other pieces of business look to be incredibly smart also. Of course, Kieran Trippier is a fantastic right-back with a devastating delivery. Meanwhile, Chris Wood has been a steady goalscorer throughout his Premier League career – and he has left a relegation rival.

And signing Burn would be another shrewd move. Graham Potter previously labelled him an ‘incredible‘ defender. And it appears that he is now on his way to Newcastle.
